Christmas is just around the corner…

…so…

…instead of sitting

at my computer…

I was decorating the house,

buying presents,

making presents,

wrapping the presents,

going to the Post Office,

eating cookies, cake,

and drinking tea with some friends and a Quilt Group,

and so on…

I guess you’re doing about the same, don’t you?!…

But,

besides that…

I could not show you what I’ve been sewing!

I might do it after Christmas! ;-)

This wall hanging had to wait a year or so (oh my….)

Now a proud finished PIP!

Some wrapped presents

Some new Tilda birds for the Christmas tree - I’ve already made some years ago,

but they were gifts and there were none for me…

There’s not much left from what I’ve baked for the Advent,

it seems like I’ll have to bake again (that’s a pleasure!)

It’s a lovely time,

hope you’re enjoying it too.

Wishing you a lovely and creative week!

On my “design floor”

Most quilters have a design wall,

but what do you do when your design wall is small

and pieces of a PIP are still hanging there?…

You use your design floor, right?

These are the first blocks for a Stained Colorful Quilt.

I saw many of these quilts, they are cheerful, bold,

and scrappy ;o)))

I saw this one Susan made and she was so kind to help me with the instructions.

There’s a lot of cutting so I had to pieced at a low pace in order not to injure my shoulder and neck. Besides, I had many other projects to finish, gifts to make, meetings, etc…I guess you know how that is!

Only this week I started sewing the white sashings

and I love the blocks!

Thank you Susan for helping me!

Sewing together again

Some years ago my friend’s daughter asked me if I would teach her how to sew.

I first showed her the English Paper Piecing way and she did it very well.

Months later she spent some days here and we made some little lovely things like little bags and a pouch, pincushion, needle case. She was very happy and I was too, it was a pleasure to see such a talented young lady!

And she is ambitious, she wants to learn more – I know she is going to be a quilter!

How lovely she could come again!

The day before she came I baked cinnamon rolls, she loves it -

and me, too! ;o)))

A cup of tea,

2012_1112photosblog0009 2012_1112photosblog0008

a couple of those and,

we’re ready to sew the next piece!

Here are some of the things she made.

This little pouch was on top of her list!

It’s from the book Zakka Style: 24 projects

She is a cupcake lover,too!

I hope you can come again…

It’s finished!

I’ve heard that “done is better than perfect”

and I totally agree with it ;o))

2012_1028photosblog0091

It took a while to sew the blocks,

then it took another while to find the right fabric for the border.

2012_1028photosblog0095

I decided to hand quilt it,

2012_1028photosblog0094

so it also took a while…

But now it’s finished

and I’m happy!

Wishing you a lovely, cozy,

and creative week!

Color inspiration II

I’m still enjoying

the change in seasons.

The days are

as beautiful as cozy.

2012_1007photosblog0146

But,

the leaves have started to

fall…

2012_1007photosblog0012

and soon

they’ll be

blown by the wind,

and gone

I want

to have more of

these beautiful color combinations…

I want

to work with them…

2012_1007photosblog0145

Just had to go through the stash,

search for

the right fabrics…

even

buy more fabrics…

Sew

as if I was painting…

Just to keep the autumnal colors

near me, in my living room .

The “Flying South Quilt” top is done,

2012_0912photosblog0005

Time to relax,

take a look,

and,

ponder on how

I should quilt it.

And when…;-)))

Busy – or, Scrappy go Happy!

October started with beautiful Autumn days

2012_0929photosblog0041

One of the pumpkins found its way to my kitchen,

the result:

tasty Pumpkin breads!

2012_0929photosblog0014

Some time ago I started cutting fabric strips for the “No Strings attached Challenge”  Stephanie had in her blog.

Unfortunately I could not go on with the projects I had in mind.

Time passed,

ahem…

years passed

A box full of scraps…

A little voice said, “give it a second chance”…

Block after block, it started to take shape.

More strips, please.

A delightful feeling when I got it done!

2012_0912photosblog0003

Wonky half Log Cabins,

or,

Scrappy go Happy!

And because I still had strips

and so many scraps…

I thought,

why not another scrappy quilt? These are the ones I love most.

Half square triangle’s production in progress:

A sneak peek,

2012_0809photosblog0003

Just a few rows left to get the top done!

Believe it or not….

the pile of scraps

did not really diminish…

I can’t wait to start sewing this project ( and the other ones on my list ;-)

2012_1002photosblog0004

Wishing you a lovely week,

with a heavy dose of quilting!

PS. I’ll count the two first two quilts as my PIP 2012 – is that ok, Stephanie?

Color inspiration

 Chestnuts….

2012_0923photosblog0004

The beautiful,

rich colors of Autumn…

used here…

2012_0926photosblog0006

Some machine quilting…

2012_0926photosblog0009

A pattern  from the book Pretty in patchwork holidays,

actually for a table runner…

but I made a small wall hanging.

2012_0926photosblog0012

A paper piece and hand applique 12” block from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks,

2012_0926photosblog0002

I used  a  non-binding binding method Victoria showed in her great tutorial here.  That’s what I was looking for to finish the little wall hanging.

Sharon has some great tutorials, too. I hope to try one of them soon.

Wishing you a lovely and cozy week
